We have left them behind altogether. Now, it is time to leave all that aside and get ready for the sacrifice, for the feast. Now, it is time to remember the closeness of Allah and remind that to one another. Now, it is time to get away from everything that keeps us away from Allah.

Well, are we ready to get close to our Lord with sacrifice? Are we committed to remove the whole distance? Are we making plans that will get us closer to our Lord and ourselves? Are we getting in touch with the poor, the wretched, and the immigrant with whom we will share the sacrifice?

Sacrifice is not merely about shedding the blood of an animal. It contains much deeper meanings and wisdom. Before anything, sacrifice is the intention to let go of all the burden that keeps us away from Allah. The aim in sacrifice is to get rid of those who get between us and Allah. It is to open our hearts directly to Allah. In short, sacrifice is a declaration of servitude and sincerity to Allah. Our Lord informs us this fact as such: “It is not the flesh and blood of your sacrifice that reaches Allah. What reaches Allah is your piety..

Sacrifice is the name of submission and obedience, loyalty and solidarity, selflessness and sharing. It has the obedience of Prophet Abraham. It has the submission of Ishmael. And is has the mercy, loyalty, charity, sharing ethics of Muhammad Mustafa (s.a.w.).

Sacrifice is to keep our awareness of charity alive in the cause of Allah. It is to share the joy of Eid with those who cannot afford to celebrate it. It is to get closer to our neighbors, our relatives, our friends and loved ones; in short, to each other. From that perspective, sacrifice is a helping hand we extend to brothers and sisters we have never known or seen in countries we have never heard of.

If you can afford it, sacrifice an animal. If you cannot, treat your fellowship to fellow Muslims. Give away your smiles as charity. Let us forget those who made us forget Allah. Let us remain pure and true. Let us be one and together. Let us be companions of Prophet Abraham (as) who was tested with his son Ishmael. Let us keep in mind that our children are also entrusted to us like Ishmael. Let us not veer away from the path of our Prophet (s.a.w.) and his companions.
